About the McDonald's Collection era

The McDonald's Collection is the run of Pokémon Trading Card Game sets given out in McDonald's Happy Meals. The first, released in North America from June 17 to July 7, 2011 alongside that year's promotional Pokémon toys, was the English version of the Japanese Collection Sheet Journey Partners, the first BW era release of Pokémon cards in Japan. The Japanese sheets held nine holofoil cards by Ken Sugimori themed around Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott, one of each type, and the English release added Maractus, Alomomola and Audino for a total of twelve cards, each packed with one of eight toys.

The formula has held for more than a decade. McDonald's Collection 2012 packed twelve reprints from Black & White, Emerging Powers and Noble Victories with six toys, and later collections drew on the sets of their year, from the XY and Sun & Moon reprints through the Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet cards of the 2021 to 2024 releases. The 2013 collection was released only in French, and the 2011 collection was French only in Québec, the only TCG collection released that way in the province.

Every McDonald's card is a holofoil reprint with a McDonald's stamp, so the sets are cheap to complete and popular with children, but a few cards carry real graded value because so few survive in high grade after passing through a Happy Meal. The Pikachu and Eevee of McDonald's Collection 2018 lead the market, followed by the Umbreon, Jolteon and Glaceon of the 2013 collection, the 2018 Chansey and the Mudkip of the 2021 collection, which marked the 25th anniversary year and drew heavy attention.

The hubs below carry every year's card list, the live chase prices and the editorial notes for each collection.

  • Happy Meal sets since 2011 The first McDonald's Collection ran in North America from June 17 to July 7, 2011 as the English version of the Japanese Collection Sheet Journey Partners, and a new collection has followed most years through 2024.
  • Holofoil reprints with a stamp Every card is a holofoil reprint of a recent set card carrying a McDonald's stamp, packed with a toy, which makes the sets easy to complete raw and hard to find in high grade.
  • The 2018 Pikachu and Eevee The Pikachu and Eevee of McDonald's Collection 2018 are the collection's most valuable cards, with the 2013 Umbreon, Jolteon and Glaceon and the 2018 Chansey behind them.
  • French only releases The 2013 collection was released only in French, and the 2011 collection was French only in Québec, the only TCG collection released that way in the province.
