About EX Team Rocket Returns
What EX Team Rocket Returns is
EX Team Rocket Returns is the seventh main expansion of the EX Series, released in English on November 8, 2004 and built from the Japanese Rocket Gang Strikes Back of October 15, 2004, the third set of the PCG era. It has 109 cards in the numbered set plus 2 secret rares, Charmeleon 110 and Here Comes Team Rocket! 111, and it brings Team Rocket back with Generation I and II Pokémon, Dark Pokémon from Dark Ampharos 2 to Dark Dragonite 15 and eleven Rocket's Pokémon-ex from Rocket's Articuno ex 96 to Rocket's Zapdos ex 106.
The set introduced Pokémon Star, Shiny colored Pokémon whose artwork breaks out of the frame with a gold foil rarity symbol, with the Hoenn starters Mudkip 107, Torchic 108 and Treecko 109 by Masakazu Fukuda as the first three. Rocket's Pokémon-ex carry spikes on the artwork border and the Team Rocket logo in the attack box, and from this set onward reverse holofoils show the set logo in the corner of the artwork.
What makes EX Team Rocket Returns different
- The first Gold Stars Treecko 109 and Torchic 108 are the two most valuable cards in the set in PSA 10 and Mudkip 107 ranks in the top seven, the three cards that began the Pokémon Star line.
- Rocket's ex Rocket's Snorlax ex 104, Rocket's Suicune ex 105 and Rocket's Mewtwo ex 99 fill three of the top six places in PSA 10, with Rocket's Scyther ex 102 and Rocket's Entei ex 97 in the top fifteen.
- Reverse holo commons The reverse holo Togetic 14 ranks third in the whole set in PSA 10, and the reverse holo Quagsire 26, Azumarill 1 and Togepi 50 also reach the top fifteen.
How EX Team Rocket Returns arrived
Rocket Gang Strikes Back released in Japan on October 15, 2004, and the English EX Team Rocket Returns followed on November 8, 2004, fourteen weeks before EX Deoxys on February 14, 2005. It launched with the Jessie and James Theme Decks, built around Dark Arbok and Dark Weezing with Cosmos Holofoil Dark Tyranitar 20 and Dark Dragonite 15 exclusive to them, and Dark Houndoom 37 served as the Prerelease promo.
EX Team Rocket Returns products
EX Team Rocket Returns was sold in booster packs, booster boxes, two Theme Decks and blisters. The sealed table above tracks them.
Collecting and grading EX Team Rocket Returns
Treecko 109 leads the set in PSA 10, with Torchic 108 second, then the reverse holo Togetic 14, Rocket's Snorlax ex 104, Rocket's Suicune ex 105, Rocket's Mewtwo ex 99, Mudkip 107, the Dark Dragonite 15 holo and the reverse holo Quagsire 26. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.
EX Series holofoils and reverse holos from 2004 show print lines and edge wear readily, so PSA 10 copies of the Gold Stars, the Rocket's ex and the reverse holos carry a very wide premium over PSA 9. Holo, reverse holo and Theme Deck prints and the Prerelease Dark Houndoom are graded and priced separately. Sealed EX Team Rocket Returns is scarce, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes, packs and blisters trade for today.
