About the XY BREAK era

The XY BREAK era is the Japanese name for the second half of the English XY Series, split off where Pokémon BREAK arrived. Blue Shock and Red Flash opened it on September 26, 2015 with 59 cards and 6 secret cards each, centered on Mewtwo, introducing Pokémon BREAK and becoming BREAKthrough on November 4, 2015. Rage of the Broken Heavens, on December 11, 2015 with Gyarados, became BREAKpoint, Awakening Psychic King, on March 18, 2016 with Alakazam and the three Formes of Zygarde, became Fates Collide, and Fever-Burst Fighter and Cruel Traitor, on June 17, 2016 with Volcanion, closed the main expansions as Steam Siege on August 3, 2016.

The concept packs define the era for collectors. The PokéKyun Collection of January 29, 2016, a 32 card set, became the Radiant Collection of the English Generations set, which celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the franchise with Generation I Pokémon from the Japanese Starter Pack and XY-P promos. The Mythical & Legendary Dream Shine Collection of July 16, 2016 released with the nineteenth movie, Volcanion and the Mechanical Magearna, with gloss coated full art Mythical Pokémon four to a pack. The Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary of September 16, 2016, with 87 cards and 16 secret cards, revisited the Generation I Pokémon of Pokémon Red, Blue and Green and became Evolutions on November 2, 2016.

Two high class packs bookend the run. The Premium Champion Pack EX×M×BREAK of April 16, 2016 gathered the era's three mechanics, Pokémon-EX, M Pokémon-EX and Pokémon BREAK, in Reverse Mirror Holofoil with no printed rarities, ten cards to a pack. The Best of XY of April 21, 2017, released during the Sun & Moon era in the original XY card template, reprinted popular cards from both XY eras with new Full Art prints, fifteen cards to a pack with a guaranteed Pokémon-EX, M Pokémon-EX or Pokémon BREAK.

Collectors chase the Pikachu EX, Charizard EX and M Charizard EX of the Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary, the Pikachu, Sylveon EX and Flareon EX of the PokéKyun Collection, the Umbreon EX of Awakening Psychic King and the Hex Maniac and Shaymin EX full arts of The Best of XY.
