About Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary
What Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary is
Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary was released in Japan on September 16, 2016 as a Concept Pack, the sixth subset of the XY BREAK era, to mark twenty years of Pokémon. It has 87 numbered cards plus 16 secret rares for 103 in total. The set reprints Base Set cards in a layout close to the original Base Set cards, with the Pokédex number, Weakness, Resistance and Retreat Cost moved into their modern places and the game text updated to current rules. Pokémon EX and M Pokémon EX were drawn in the same retro style. The English version, Evolutions, followed on November 2, 2016 as the final XY series expansion with 113 cards.
What makes Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary different
- Retro layout with modern rules Every card looks like an original Base Set print, but the types, HP, Abilities and attacks were rewritten for the XY era, and the Japanese packs carried 1st Edition marks.
- Secret EX slate The 16 secrets are full art style Pokémon EX and M Pokémon EX of the Kanto starters, Pikachu, Mewtwo and Dragonite plus trainer cards such as Misty's Determination.

Collecting and grading Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary
1st Edition secrets dominate the hub: Pikachu EX leads, followed by Charizard EX, M Charizard EX, Blastoise EX, Mewtwo EX, Venusaur EX and Dragonite EX, with Misty's Determination as the top trainer. Mew and the retro Charizard are the leading cards in the regular numbering. Because the retro frames are yellow bordered, whitening on the edges is easy to see, so centering and edge quality decide the grade more than the surface.
