Aquapolis is the second expansion of the e-Card Series, released in English on January 15, 2003 under the set code AQ. Its numbered set runs to 147 cards, with three Crystal Pokémon secret rares at 148 to 150 and 32 holofoil rares numbered separately from H1 to H32, 186 cards in all, which the set was marketed as the largest ever printed. Every card carries an e-Reader Dot-Code strip, and four cards exist in a and b versions with different Dot-Code data.
Aquapolis introduced Crystal Pokémon, whose Crystal Type Poké-Body changes the Pokémon's type to match the Energy attached until the end of the turn, with the eligible Energy colors shown in the card's background highlight. Kingdra 148, Lugia 149 and Nidoking 150 are the three Crystal secret rares, and the H set carries the era's most collected holofoils, Umbreon H29, Houndoom H11, Ampharos H1, Tyranitar H28, Espeon H9 and Arcanine H2 among them. Grass is the most represented type at 33 cards.
The set combines two Japanese expansions, The Town on No Map and Wind from the Sea.
Japan released The Town on No Map on March 8, 2002 and Wind from the Sea on May 24, 2002 as the second and third expansions of the e-Card era. The English Aquapolis combined them on January 15, 2003, a month after Best of Game and four months before Skyridge closed the Wizards of the Coast era.
The Rock Garden and Abyss Theme Decks released with the set, Rock Garden built on Nidoking with Fighting and Grass Pokémon and Abyss on Ninetales with Fire and Water, each with a metal coin, rulebook, damage counters, card list and one random Mirror Reverse Holofoil card from the expansion. Aquapolis packs also sold in blisters.
Aquapolis sold in booster packs, 36 pack booster boxes, blister packs and the two Theme Decks. The sealed table above tracks each of them.
Crystal Lugia 149 leads the live prices above by a wide margin, followed by the reverse holofoil Psyduck 104, Umbreon H29, Crystal Nidoking 150, Houndoom H11, Ampharos H1, Tyranitar H28, Espeon H9, Arcanine H2, Crystal Kingdra 148, Sudowoodo H24, Suicune H25, the reverse holofoil Growlithe 51, Ninetales H19 and Slowking H22. Nearly every holofoil in the set carries a meaningful raw price.
Grading is punishing. e-Card holofoils show scratches and print lines, the Dot-Code border chips easily and PSA 10 populations on the top cards are small, so the gap between PSA 9 and PSA 10 is among the widest in the hobby and a PSA 9 is the realistic result for most raw copies. Check the holofoil surface, the borders and the reverse for print defects before submitting, and match the H number and any a or b suffix in the checklist.
Sealed Aquapolis is a vintage asset alongside Skyridge, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes, packs, blisters and the two Theme Decks trade for today.
