What Supreme Victors is

Supreme Victors is the third main expansion of the Platinum Series, released in English on August 19, 2009. It has 147 cards in the numbered set plus 3 secret rares, the legendary birds Articuno 148, Moltres 149 and Zapdos 150, and 3 Shiny Pokémon numbered SH7 to SH9, for 153 cards in all. In Japan it was released as Beat of the Frontier on March 6, 2009 with 100 cards, the third expansion of the DPt Era.

The set is based on Pokémon Platinum and features Generation IV Pokémon, Pokémon LV.X and Pokémon SP, the owner's Pokémon introduced in the Platinum expansion. Supreme Victors added the fourth and fifth kinds of Pokémon SP: Pokémon C, owned by Sinnoh Champion Cynthia, and Pokémon FB, owned by the Frontier Brains of the Battle Frontier, using the Pokémon they battled with in Pokémon Platinum. Team Galactic's Pokémon G continue from earlier sets, so Charizard G, Garchomp C and Blaziken FB share the same set.

Seven Pokémon LV.X close the numbered set at 141 to 147: Absol G, Blaziken FB, Charizard G, Electivire FB, Garchomp C, Rayquaza C and Staraptor FB, and the three secret rares are the Kanto legendary birds.

What makes Supreme Victors different

• The legendary bird secret rares Articuno 148, Moltres 149 and Zapdos 150 are the set's secret rares, printed as SuperRare Holofoils in Japan, and Zapdos 150 and Moltres 149 rank among the top four cards in the set in PSA 10.
• Seven LV.X Charizard G LV.X 143 and Rayquaza C LV.X 146 lead the seven Pokémon LV.X, with Absol G LV.X 141, Blaziken FB LV.X 142, Electivire FB LV.X 144, Staraptor FB LV.X 147 and Garchomp C LV.X 145 completing the run.
• Cynthia and the Frontier Brains Pokémon C and Pokémon FB debuted here as the fourth and fifth kinds of Pokémon SP, and Garchomp C LV.X 145 and Blaziken FB LV.X 142 are the first LV.X of each kind, joining the Team Galactic Pokémon G from Platinum.
• The reverse holo Charizard G Charizard G 20 is a regular rare, but its reverse holofoil print is the most valuable card in the whole set in PSA 10, ahead of every LV.X and secret rare.
• Shiny Milotic, Relicanth and Yanma Milotic SH7, Relicanth SH8 and Yanma SH9 continue the Shiny Pokémon numbering of the Platinum Series, and Milotic SH7 ranks in the top fifteen cards of the set.

How Supreme Victors arrived

Beat of the Frontier released in Japan on March 6, 2009, and the English Supreme Victors followed on August 19, 2009, fourteen weeks after Rising Rivals on May 16, 2009 and eleven weeks before Arceus on November 4, 2009. Its two Theme Decks, Ignition and Overflow, drew on the Japanese Garchomp vs Charizard SP Deck Kit released alongside Beat of the Frontier, with Ignition built around Cyrus and Arcanine G and Overflow around Cynthia and Milotic C.

The blisters released with the set on August 19, 2009 were the last Two Pack Blisters to include a coin, and the Supreme Victors Poster Pack released the same day as the expansion rather than weeks later as the Platinum Poster Pack had. Garchomp 5 and 60, Gabite 59 and Gible 106 were later handed out as Crosshatch Holofoil championship promos.

Collecting and grading Supreme Victors

The reverse holofoil Charizard G 20 leads the set in PSA 10, with Zapdos 150, Rayquaza C LV.X 146, Moltres 149, Charizard G LV.X 143 and Articuno 148 behind it, then Absol G LV.X 141, Blaziken FB LV.X 142, Electivire FB LV.X 144, the holofoil Arcanine G 15 and Staraptor FB LV.X 147. Milotic SH7, Rayquaza C 8, Swampert 12 and Electivire FB 4 complete the top fifteen. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.

Platinum Series holofoils and LV.X cards are prone to surface scratches and edge wear, and the LV.X cards were played rather than stored, so PSA 10 copies are scarce and the gap between PSA 9 and PSA 10 is very wide across the top of the set. The legendary bird secret rares are the hardest of the chase cards to find at all.
