About the Platinum era

The Platinum Series ran from Platinum on February 11, 2009 to Arceus on November 4, 2009, four main expansions drawn from the Japanese DPt era, from Galactic's Conquest to Advent of Arceus. It continued the Sinnoh region of the Diamond & Pearl Series and kept Pokémon LV.X as its top rarity while adding a mechanic of its own.

Platinum introduced Pokémon SP, Pokémon owned by a Trainer and marked with a letter after the name. The first were Team Galactic's Pokémon G, the second and third variants were the Gym Leaders' Pokémon GL and the Elite Four's Pokémon 4 in Rising Rivals, and the fourth and fifth were Cynthia's Pokémon C and the Frontier Brains' Pokémon FB in Supreme Victors. Pokémon SP had lower HP than their regular counterparts but a suite of support cards, and Pokémon SP LV.X such as Charizard G LV.X and Rayquaza C LV.X became competitive staples.

Rising Rivals in May 2009 is the era's best known set for collectors because of its secret rares, a run of shiny Pokémon reprints led by Flying Pikachu, and its Snorlax LV.X. Supreme Victors in August 2009 carried Charizard G and its LV.X along with the shiny secret rare Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno, and Arceus closed the series in November 2009 with the Arceus LV.X cards and a Gengar LV.X.

Collectors chase the Rising Rivals Flying Pikachu and Snorlax LV.X, the Supreme Victors Charizard G, Charizard G LV.X and shiny Legendary birds, Rayquaza C LV.X and the Arceus set's Gengar LV.X. The set hubs below carry every card list, the live chase and sealed prices and the editorial history of each release.
