Shrouded Fable

What Shrouded Fable is

Shrouded Fable is the third special expansion of the Scarlet & Violet Series, released in English on August 2, 2024 under the set code SFA. It has 64 cards in the numbered set plus 35 secret rares, for 99 cards in total, so more than a third of the set is secret. It introduces the Mythical Pokémon Pecharunt, first seen in the Mochi Mayhem epilogue of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, as a Pokémon ex, and brings back the Loyal Three of Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti as Pokémon ex after their debut in Twilight Masquerade. The wider theme is villainy: Pokémon and characters tied to villainous teams and shady dealings.

The checklist holds six Double rare Pokémon ex, one of them a Tera Pokémon ex (Revavroom ex, Terastallized into a Lightning type), three ACE SPEC Trainer cards including the first ACE SPEC Stadium, 15 Illustration rares, ten Ultra rare full art Pokémon ex and Supporters, five Special illustration rares and five gold etched Hyper rares. Darkness is the most represented type at 24 cards, fitting the Pecharunt theme. Every card but one carries the H regulation mark.

The cards come from the Japanese Night Wanderer expansion, the sixth Japanese subset of the Scarlet & Violet era.

What makes Shrouded Fable different

• Parallel foil Shrouded Fable introduced a new holofoil pattern called parallel foil for its reverse holofoil slot. Like other reverse holofoils, parallel foil cards carry a white expansion code box with black text instead of the usual black box with white text.
• An Illustration rare set With 15 Illustration rares in a 64 card set, the chase list is almost entirely Illustration rares: Whisker's Persian 78 leads, followed by Taiga Kasai's Houndoom 66, James Turner's Duskull 68, Dusclops 69 and Dusknoir 70, Shinya Komatsu's Horsea 67 and Takeshi Nakamura's Bewear 79.
• kantaro's Loyal Three All four Pokémon ex Special illustration rares, Okidogi ex 90, Munkidori ex 91, Fezandipiti ex 92 and Pecharunt ex 93, were painted by kantaro as a connected set, with burari's Cassiopeia 94 the lone Supporter.
• The first ACE SPEC Stadium Neutralization Zone 60 is the first ACE SPEC Stadium card. Dangerous Laser 58 and Poké Vital A 62 complete the set's three ACE SPEC Rares.
• Ukiyo-e style collection promos The three launch collections carried promos in the style of Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints: Kingambit (SVP 130), Kingdra ex (SVP 131) and Greninja ex (SVP 132), each boxed with Cosmos Holofoil prints of the evolution line below it.
• No booster display box Shrouded Fable was not sold in standard booster display boxes. Packs came through the three collections, the Pecharunt blister, five Mini Tins, the delayed Elite Trainer Box and a Booster Bundle that arrived a month after launch.

How Shrouded Fable arrived

Japan released Night Wanderer on June 7, 2024, a 94 card set that followed Crimson Haze and preceded Paradise Dragona, with five cards per pack. The English set followed on August 2, 2024, between Twilight Masquerade in May and Play! Pokémon Prize Pack Series Five in mid August. As a special expansion it had no prerelease tournaments and no Build & Battle Box.

The launch wave on August 2, 2024 brought the Kingambit Illustration Collection, the Kingdra ex and Greninja ex Special Illustration Collections, the Three Booster Pack and Promo Card Blister with a Pecharunt promo (SVP 149), five Mini Tins featuring Zoroark, Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezandipiti and Dusknoir, a Mini Tin Bundle sold through the Amazon Pokémon Store and Ultra Pro portfolios. The Elite Trainer Box was meant to launch the same day but slipped to August 23, 2024 because of component delays, and the Booster Bundle formed the second and final wave on September 6, 2024.

Several cards later appeared as Southeast Asian league and gym promos: Dusclops 19, Dusknoir 20, Colress's Tenacity 57, Night Stretcher 61 and Powerglass 63 as Pokémon TCG Gym stamped Present Pack cards in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, Colress's Tenacity 57 as an Ultra Ball League promo and a reverse holofoil Pokémon League promo, and Night Stretcher 61 as a Great Ball League promo. Kingdra 12 carried a Shrouded Fable stamp in the Greninja ex & Kingdra ex Special Collection, and Fezandipiti 38 appeared with a missing star foil pattern in the Dragapult ex League Battle Deck.

Shrouded Fable products and what came in them

The Elite Trainer Box features the Loyal Three and holds nine booster packs, 65 card sleeves, 45 basic Energy cards, a player's guide, six damage counter dice, a coin flip die, two Special Condition markers, four dividers, a code card and an Illustration rare style Pecharunt promo (SVP Promo 129). The Pokémon Center version adds two more packs and a second Pecharunt with a Pokémon Center stamp.

The Kingambit Illustration Collection holds four packs, a full art Kingambit promo and Cosmos Holofoil Pawniard and Bisharp from Obsidian Flames. The Kingdra ex Special Illustration Collection holds five packs, a Kingdra ex promo and Cosmos Holofoil Horsea 10 and Seadra 11, and the Greninja ex Special Illustration Collection holds five packs, a Greninja ex promo and Cosmos Holofoil Froakie and Frogadier from Obsidian Flames. The blister holds three packs and a Pecharunt promo, each Mini Tin holds two packs, a sticker sheet and an art card, and the Booster Bundle holds six packs in two configurations.

Collecting and grading Shrouded Fable

Persian 78 is the card that matters, and the live prices above show the gap between a raw copy and a PSA 10. Houndoom 66, the Duskull, Dusclops and Dusknoir trio, Horsea 67 and Bewear 79 follow, all cheap raw cards where grading is the whole story. The Special illustration rares and gold Pecharunt ex 95 sit behind the Illustration rares in the graded market, an unusual order that reflects how much of the set's appeal is in its art.

No tracked single clears a meaningful raw price, which makes Shrouded Fable one of the cheapest modern master sets to complete raw, with the graded premiums concentrated in a dozen Illustration rares. The reverse holofoil Rowlet 3, Iron Moth 9 and Meowth 48 and the Cosmos Holofoil Seadra 11 show high PSA 10 prices built on very few sales, so treat those numbers as thin market noise and match the variant label in the checklist below before comparing prices.

Parallel foil cards are new to graders and collectors alike, so check the foil surface for print lines before submitting. Sealed product is a mix of collections, tins and bundles rather than display boxes, and the sealed table above tracks what each trades for today.
