What Scarlet & Violet 151 is

Scarlet & Violet 151 is the first special expansion of the Scarlet & Violet Series, released in English on September 22, 2023 under the set code MEW. It has 165 cards in the numbered set plus 42 secret rares, for 207 cards in total. The set covers only the original 151 Pokémon of Generation I, and unlike almost every other expansion its Pokémon are numbered in National Pokédex order rather than grouped by type, so Bulbasaur is card 1 and Mew ex is card 151.

The checklist holds 12 Double rare Pokémon ex, 16 Illustration rares, 16 Ultra rare full art etched Pokémon ex and Supporters, seven Special illustration rares and three gold etched Hyper rares: Mew ex 205, Switch 206 and Basic Psychic Energy 207. Water is the most represented type at 38 cards, with Grass at 30. Cosmos Holofoil basic Energy cards also appear in packs. Every card carries the G regulation mark.

The cards come from the Japanese Pokémon Card 151 expansion. The set is also notable for the first Kadabra card since Skyridge in 2003, a twenty year gap.

What makes Scarlet & Violet 151 different

• Pokédex order and the Kanto starters Numbering the set by National Pokédex number puts the three starter lines at the front and gives each a full run: Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle as commons, as Illustration rares (166, 168 and 170) and as Double rare and Special illustration rare Venusaur ex, Charizard ex and Blastoise ex.
• Demigod packs A small share of packs replace the two reverse holofoil cards and the rare with an entire evolutionary line of Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle as secret cards. Collectors call them demigod packs, and the chance of one is part of the set's appeal.
• The Charizard ex Special illustration rare miki kudo's Charizard ex 199 is the most valuable pack pulled card in the set. Mitsuhiro Arita's Blastoise ex 200 and Yoriyuki Ikegami's Venusaur ex 198 complete the starter trio, with Shinya Komatsu's Alakazam ex 201 and Shiburingaru's Zapdos ex 202 alongside two Supporters, Erika's Invitation 203 and Giovanni's Charisma 204.
• Mew ex in five forms Mew ex closes the numbered set as Double rare 151, appears again as Ultra rare 193 and gold Hyper rare 205, and card 205 also exists as the metal card from the Ultra-Premium Collection. The 151 print exists as an Ultra Ball League promo in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines and as a Play! Pokémon Prize Pack card, and the league promo is the most valuable variant tracked for the set.
• Voltorb, the Professor Program promo Voltorb 100 was printed with a Professor Program stamp for the Voltorb Drill event, with a Cosmos reverse holofoil Mentor version. Both trade far above any pack pulled card and change hands mostly raw.
• Retail repacks with exclusive prints The Sam's Club 4 Mini Tin Bundle carried Cosmos Holofoil Pikachu 25, Machamp 68, Gengar 94 and Dragonite 149, the Costco 151 Mini Tin 5-Pack carried Cosmos Parallel Holofoil Bulbasaur 1, Charmander 4, Squirtle 7 and Pikachu 25, and Charmander 4 also exists with GameStop and EB Games stamps.

How Scarlet & Violet 151 arrived

Japan released Pokémon Card 151 on June 16, 2023, a 210 card set that followed Triplet Beat and preceded Raging Surf. Its packs held seven cards with two guaranteed holofoils, and commons, uncommons and rares came in Mirror Holofoil variants with a Poké Ball pattern or, rarely, a Master Ball pattern, which is why the Japanese set has its own collecting market. The English set released on September 22, 2023, three weeks after Trick or Trade 2023 and ahead of Paradox Rift in November.

The English launch wave on September 22, 2023 included the Elite Trainer Box, the Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, the Poster Collection, the Binder Collection and the Booster Bundle. A second wave followed on October 6, 2023 with the Zapdos ex and Alakazam ex Collections, the Ultra-Premium Collection and ten Mini Tins illustrated by GIDORA. There was no standard booster display box in English, so packs reached collectors through bundles, boxes, collections and tins.

The set kept selling long after launch. Sam's Club stocked Poké Ball and 151 Mini Tin 3-Packs from late February 2024, Costco stocked a 151 Collection 2-Pack from mid March 2024 and a 151 Mini Tin 5-Pack with four exclusive Cosmos Parallel Holofoil cards from early October 2024, and the 151 Blooming Waters Premium Collection arrived on February 7, 2025 with twelve packs, reprints of Venusaur ex and Blastoise ex and an oversized Blastoise ex.

Scarlet & Violet 151 products and what came in them

The Elite Trainer Box features Snorlax and holds nine booster packs, 65 card sleeves, 45 basic Energy cards, a player's guide, six damage counter dice, a coin flip die, two condition markers, four dividers, a code card and an Illustration rare style Snorlax promo (SVP Promo 051), a card from the Japanese set that was cut during localization. The Pokémon Center version adds two more packs and a second Snorlax with a Pokémon Center stamp.

The Poster Collection holds three packs, a double sided poster and foil Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle promos (SVP 046 to 048), printed on Smooth Cosmos Holofoil in the first waves and Pixel Cosmos Holofoil from early 2024. The Binder Collection holds four packs and a 20 page nine pocket binder for 360 cards, and the Booster Bundle holds six packs. The Zapdos ex Collection carries a regular and a jumbo Zapdos ex promo (SVP 049), a Cosmos Holofoil Electabuzz 125 and four packs; the Alakazam ex Collection carries an Alakazam ex promo (SVP 050), Cosmos Holofoil Abra 63 and Kadabra 64 and four packs. The Ultra-Premium Collection holds sixteen packs, a metal Mew ex card, a Special illustration rare style Mew ex promo (SVP 053), an Illustration rare style Mewtwo promo (SVP 052), a playmat, a deck box, a metallic Mew coin, dice and markers. Each of the ten Mini Tins holds two packs, an Energy symbol coin and an art card.

Collecting and grading Scarlet & Violet 151

Charizard ex 199 is the pack pulled card that matters, and the live prices above show the gap between a raw copy and a PSA 10. Blastoise ex 200, miki kudo's Charmander 168, Hiroyuki Yamamoto's Pikachu 173 and the gold Mew ex 205 follow, and the Illustration rares of the starters and Pikachu are the cards most collectors chase first. Ten tracked singles clear a meaningful raw price, which makes this one of the more expensive Scarlet & Violet sets to complete.

The variant rows dominate the top of the PSA 10 list. The Ultra Ball League Mew ex 151, the Professor Program Voltorb 100 prints, the EB Games Charmander 4 and the Cosmos Holofoil Gengar 94, Machamp 68 and Dragonite 149 from the Sam's Club tins all trade far above the ordinary prints of the same cards, and several change hands mostly raw with thin graded populations.
