About POP Series 7
What POP Series 7 is
POP Series 7 is the seventh special set released through Pokémon Organized Play events and affiliated products, distributed from March 2008 to September 2008. It has 17 cards: 5 rares, Ampharos 1, Gallade 2, Latias 3, Latios 4 and Mothim 5, 5 uncommons from Delibird 6 to Wormadam Sandy Cloak 10 and 7 commons from Burmy Plant Cloak 11 to Spinda 17, with Gallade on the booster design.
It is the second Organized Play set of the Diamond & Pearl era and the only POP set made entirely of reprints: seven cards came from the Japanese Dialga LV.X Constructed Standard Deck, seven from the Palkia LV.X Constructed Standard Deck, both released alongside Shining Darkness, and Delibird, Latias and Latios from the Magmortar vs Electivire Deck Kit released alongside Moonlit Pursuit and Dawn Dash. Players criticized the set because none of its Pokémon faced rotation in the coming season, which shaped the more useful POP Series 8.
What makes POP Series 7 different
- Ampharos and Latias holos The Cosmos Holofoil Ampharos 1 from the Collector's Box and Latias 3 from the Legends Awakened Blisters are the two most valuable cards in the set in PSA 10 by a wide margin.
- The banned Wormadam Wormadam Sandy Cloak 10 was banned from the 2008 North American Professor Cup, the first specific card banned from an official event since Slowking from Neo Genesis, after dominating the 2008 European Professor Cup as an uncommon legal for that event.
- All reprints POP Series 7 is the only POP set so far to consist entirely of reprints, drawn from two Japanese Constructed Standard Decks and a Deck Kit rather than from any English expansion.
How POP Series 7 arrived
POP Series 7 began distribution in March 2008, after Great Encounters on February 13, 2008 and ahead of Majestic Dawn on May 21, 2008, and it ran through September 2008. Its holographic versions followed over the next year: Latias 3, Latios 4 and Mothim 5 in the Legends Awakened Blisters of August 2008, Ampharos 1 and Kirlia 8 in the Collector's Box of December 2008 and Gallade 2 in the Gallade Blister Pack of March 2009.
POP Series 7 products
POP Series 7 was never sold in booster boxes. Packs were handed out at leagues and events and bundled in value packs, and the sealed table above tracks loose packs.
Collecting and grading POP Series 7
The holographic Ampharos 1 leads the set in PSA 10, with the holographic Latias 3 second, then the regular Gallade 2 and Ampharos 1, the holographic Kirlia 8, Flaaffy 7, Latios 4 in both prints, Delibird 6 and the holographic Gallade 2. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.
Organized Play packs were thin and rarely sleeved, so PSA 10 copies of every card are scarce and the gap between PSA 9 and PSA 10 is very wide, even on the commons. Holographic and regular prints are graded and priced separately.
