About Ancient Roar
What Ancient Roar is
Ancient Roar is one half of the fourth Japanese expansion block of the Scarlet & Violet era, released on October 27, 2023 with the set code SV4K alongside its partner set Future Flash. It has 66 cards in the numbered set plus 29 secret cards, 95 in total, and it carries the Ancient side of the block, with Roaring Moon ex 54 and Sandy Shocks ex 42 among six Pokémon ex. Together with the Raging Surf subset and the Terastal Starter Sets they became the English Paradox Rift of November 3, 2023.
The block introduced Ancient and Future card variants, marked by an icon in the top right of the artwork and a distinct background: layered strata for Ancient cards, pixels for Future cards. Ancient Roar has no Lightning or Metal Pokémon. Its 29 secrets run from 67 to 95: twelve art rares from Crustle 67 to Loudred 78, full arts from 79 to 87, the special art rares from Golisopod ex 88 to Mela 92 and the gold Roaring Moon ex 93, Luxurious Cape 94 and Basic Darkness Energy 95.
What makes Ancient Roar different
- Golisopod leads Golisopod ex tops the set in PSA 10 as the special art rare 88 by Oku, and its regular double rare 22 and full art 81 also sit in the top five.
- Roaring Moon in four prints Roaring Moon ex appears as a double rare at 54, a full art at 84, a special art rare at 90 and a gold card at 93, and the special art rare by Ryota Murayama ranks second in the set.
- Ancient art rares The art rare run carries Ancient Paradox Pokémon alongside ordinary ones, and Morpeko 76 and Brute Bonnet 77 both reach the set's top six in PSA 10.
How Ancient Roar arrived
Ancient Roar and Future Flash were first glimpsed on August 11, 2023, when the Canadian Pokémon Center website briefly showed an Iron Valiant Elite Trainer Box, and they released in Japan on October 27, 2023, five weeks after the Raging Surf subset on September 22, 2023 and five weeks before Shiny Treasure ex on December 1, 2023. The English Paradox Rift followed on November 3, 2023, with Traditional Chinese on November 10, 2023 and Thai on December 15, 2023.
Ancient Roar products
Ancient Roar was sold in Japanese booster packs and booster boxes, separately from Future Flash. The sealed table above tracks both.
Collecting and grading Ancient Roar
The special art rare Golisopod ex 88 leads the set in PSA 10, with Roaring Moon ex 90 second, then the regular Golisopod ex 22, Morpeko 76, the full art Golisopod ex 81, Brute Bonnet 77, Mela 92 and the gold Roaring Moon ex 93. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.
