About the LEGEND era

The LEGEND era returned the card game to Johto. It opened on October 9, 2009 with the HeartGold Collection and the SoulSilver Collection, dual expansions of 70 cards and one secret card each, built on Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver and their Generation II Pokémon. Together they became the English HeartGold & SoulSilver set of February 10, 2010. The block introduced Pokémon Prime, considerably more powerful Pokémon with a holofoil card border, gold foil name text, spikes on the artwork window and no Pokédex entry, and Pokémon LEGEND, a classification of cards that gave the era its name.

Reviving Legends followed on February 11, 2010 with 80 cards and a secret card, reaching English as Undaunted on August 18, 2010. Lost Link, the era's only subset, arrived on April 16, 2010 as a Strength Pack of 40 cards, sold in packs of seven cards instead of eleven with no Energy cards, and its cards were spread across the English Triumphant and Call of Legends. Clash at the Summit closed the era on July 8, 2010 with 80 cards and a secret card, coinciding with the premiere of the thirteenth movie, Ruler of Illusions: Zoroark, on July 10, 2010. The English Triumphant of November 3, 2010 combined it with the Lost Link subset, and the Psyduck and Weepinbell cards carry an uncorrected misspelling of Flip as Filp.

The World Collection released alongside Clash at the Summit on July 8, 2010: nine Pikachu cards in the nine languages the game was printed in at the time, English, Italian, Korean, Spanish, Japanese, German, French, Polish and Portuguese, each with its own artwork for its nationality, all holofoil with gold holofoil borders. The English box followed in November 2010 with one of the four World Championship Decks. The L-P Promotional cards ran through the era from September 2009, replacing the DPt-P suffix.

The Pokémon Prime and Pokémon LEGEND cards, and the language Pikachu of the World Collection, are the era's collecting targets. The set hubs below carry every card list, the live chase prices ranked by PSA 10 value and the editorial history of each release.

  • Pokémon Prime and Pokémon LEGEND The HeartGold and SoulSilver Collections introduced Pokémon Prime, powerful Pokémon with holofoil borders, gold name text and spikes on the artwork window, and the Pokémon LEGEND cards that named the era.
