About the Diamond & Pearl era

The Diamond & Pearl Series ran from Diamond & Pearl on May 23, 2007 to Stormfront on November 5, 2008, seven main expansions covering the Sinnoh region of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Every set came from the Japanese DP era, starting with the Diamond Collection and Pearl Collection, known together as Space-Time Creation, and ending with Intense Fight in the Destroyed Sky.

Diamond & Pearl introduced Pokémon LV.X, Level Up Pokémon placed on top of a Pokémon in play that can use any attack, Poké-Power or Poké-Body of the card beneath them. LV.X cards were the era's chase rares, with Dialga and Palkia LV.X in the base set, Mewtwo LV.X in Legends Awakened and Dusknoir LV.X in Stormfront among the best known. Mysterious Treasures introduced Pokémon that come with held items, and Secret Wonders drew on Shining Darkness, the Japanese set built around the tenth Pokémon film with Dialga, Palkia and Darkrai.

Stormfront closed the series in November 2008 and introduced the era's secret rares, reprints of the Base Set Charizard and other classic cards in the DP frame, alongside a holofoil Gengar that became the most valuable card of the series. Great Encounters, Majestic Dawn and Legends Awakened filled the middle of the run, the last of them a large set of Legendary Pokémon and LV.X cards.

Collectors chase the Stormfront Gengar first, then the LV.X cards led by Mewtwo, Empoleon and Dusknoir, the Secret Wonders Charizard and Lugia holofoils and the Stormfront secret rare Charizard. Reverse holofoils of popular Pokémon from Diamond & Pearl, such as Snorlax, also trade well in high grade. The set hubs below carry every card list, the live chase and sealed prices and the editorial history of each release.

  • Pokémon LV.X Diamond & Pearl introduced Pokémon LV.X, Level Up cards placed on a Pokémon in play that can use any attack, Poké-Power or Poké-Body of the card beneath them. Dialga, Palkia, Mewtwo and Dusknoir LV.X are the era's best known.
  • Held items and Shining Darkness Mysterious Treasures introduced Pokémon that come with held items, and Secret Wonders came from Shining Darkness, the Japanese set tied to the tenth Pokémon film about Dialga, Palkia and Darkrai.
  • Stormfront's secret rares The final set of the series introduced secret rare reprints of classic cards, including the Base Set Charizard in the DP frame, and its holofoil Gengar is the most valuable card of the era.
  • Seven sets, one region All seven sets cover Sinnoh and Generation IV, from the Diamond Collection and Pearl Collection of Space-Time Creation to Intense Fight in the Destroyed Sky, and the Platinum Series continued the region in 2009.
