About BREAKpoint
What BREAKpoint is
BREAKpoint is the ninth main expansion of the XY Series, released in English on February 3, 2016 and built from the Japanese Rage of the Broken Heavens of December 11, 2015, the second set of the XY BREAK era. It has 122 cards in the numbered set plus one secret rare, the Gyarados EX 123 by Mitsuhiro Arita showing the Atrocious Pokémon in its Shiny form, and it is built around Gyarados EX 26 and M Gyarados EX 27 with Scizor EX 76 and M Scizor EX 77 beside them.
The set carries five Pokémon BREAK, Golduck BREAK 18, Greninja BREAK 41, Luxray BREAK 47, Trevenant BREAK 66 and Raticate BREAK 89, and eleven Pokémon-EX including Palkia EX 31, Espeon EX 52, Darkrai EX 74 and Ho-Oh EX 92. The full arts run from Gyarados EX 114 to Ho-Oh EX 121 and close with the Supporter Skyla 122.
What makes BREAKpoint different
- All-Night Party The reverse holo print of the Item card All-Night Party 96 is the most valuable card in the set in PSA 10, narrowly ahead of the secret rare Gyarados EX 123.
- Shiny Gyarados The secret rare Gyarados EX 123 shows the red Shiny Gyarados and ranks second in the set, with the full art M Gyarados EX 115 and Gyarados EX 114 in the top six.
- Greninja three ways The Greninja 40 rare ranks in the top eight as a reverse holo and in the top fifteen as the Cracked Ice Holofoil from the Wave Slasher Theme Deck, while Greninja BREAK 41 sits in the top ten.
How BREAKpoint arrived
Rage of the Broken Heavens released in Japan on December 11, 2015, and the English BREAKpoint followed on February 3, 2016, thirteen weeks after BREAKthrough on November 4, 2015 and three weeks before Generations on February 22, 2016. It launched with the Wave Slasher and Electric Eye Theme Decks built around Greninja and Luxray, an Elite Trainer Box and blisters with Pikachu, Hydreigon, Pyroar and Umbreon promos.
BREAKpoint products
BREAKpoint was sold in booster packs, booster boxes, two Theme Decks, an Elite Trainer Box, blisters and tins. The sealed table above tracks them.
Collecting and grading BREAKpoint
The reverse holo All-Night Party 96 leads the set in PSA 10, with the secret rare Gyarados EX 123 second, then the alternate art Delinquent 98b, the full art Espeon EX 117, M Gyarados EX 115, Gyarados EX 114 and Darkrai EX 118, the reverse holo Greninja 40 and Ho-Oh EX 121. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.
PSA 10 copies of the secret rare and the full arts carry a wide premium over PSA 9, and reverse holos of playable cards are scarce in top grade. The alternate art Delinquent and Professor Sycamore prints, the Cracked Ice Theme Deck holos and the League promo Greninja 40 are graded and priced separately. Sealed BREAKpoint remains obtainable, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes, packs, blisters and tins trade for today.
