Team Up

What Team Up is

Team Up is the ninth main expansion of the Sun & Moon Series, released in English on February 1, 2019. It has 181 cards in the numbered set plus 15 secret rares, 196 in total, and it combines the Japanese Tag Bolt expansion of December 7, 2018, 118 cards, with cards from the Dark Order subset of October 5, 2018. It is based on Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, so Generation I Pokémon and the Kanto region run through the set.

Team Up introduced TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX, cards that pair two Pokémon sharing at least one type. They are Basic Pokémon with higher HP than regular Pokémon-GX, they give up three Prize cards when Knocked Out, and their GX attacks carry a + sign that adds an effect when extra Energy is attached. Yellow corner lines and a TAG TEAM label mark the cards, and each TAG TEAM came in four prints: regular, full art, alternate art full art and rainbow secret rare.

The set's TAG TEAMs are Celebi & Venusaur GX, Pikachu & Zekrom GX, Gengar & Mimikyu GX, Latias & Latios GX, Eevee & Snorlax GX and Magikarp & Wailord GX, joined by Ampharos GX, Mr. Mime GX, Lycanroc GX, Hoopa GX, Incineroar GX and Cobalion GX. Ten full art Supporters run from 172 to 181, and the 15 secret rares hold ten rainbow GX and five gold Items.

What makes Team Up different

• The first TAG TEAM GX Team Up debuted the TAG TEAM mechanic that ran through the rest of the Sun & Moon Series, with Pikachu & Zekrom GX 33 as its face, a card later reprinted with a 30th Anniversary stamp in the 30th Celebration Classic Collection.
• The alternate art full arts Latias & Latios GX 170 by Sanosuke Sakuma, Gengar & Mimikyu GX 165 by Midori Harada and Magikarp & Wailord GX 161 by OOYAMA are the set's alternate art full arts, and they hold the top three places in the set in PSA 10.
• Gengar & Mimikyu in four prints Gengar & Mimikyu GX appears at 53, 164, 165 and 186, and all four prints rank in the set's top ten in PSA 10, the deepest run of any card in Team Up.
• Theme Deck and tin holofoils The Cosmos Holofoil Charizard 14 from the Kanto Powers Mini Tins and the Cracked Ice Holofoil Blastoise 25 from the Torrential Cannon Theme Deck both rank in the set's top ten in PSA 10, ahead of most of the full art GX.
• Tapu Koko Prism Star Tapu Koko 51 is the set's Prism Star card, and a glossy print of it came in the Pikachu & Zekrom-GX League Battle Deck.

How Team Up arrived

Tag Bolt released in Japan on December 7, 2018, and the English Team Up followed on February 1, 2019, thirteen weeks after Lost Thunder on November 2, 2018 and eight weeks before the Detective Pikachu set on March 29, 2019. Prerelease events ran on the weekends of January 19 to 20 and January 26 to 27, 2019, with a Build & Battle Box that held four packs, an Evolution pack and one of four Prerelease promos, Charizard, Zapdos, Nidoqueen or Jirachi.

The set launched with the Relentless Flame and Torrential Cannon Theme Decks built around Charizard and Blastoise, an Elite Trainer Box featuring Pikachu & Zekrom with a GX marker in the new TAG TEAM design, blisters carrying Pikachu, Mimikyu, Deoxys and Ultra Necrozma SM Black Star Promos and a 30 page collector's album. Three card Mini Packs reached Dollar Tree stores in late February 2019.

The TAG TEAM mechanic carried through every remaining Sun & Moon set.

Collecting and grading Team Up

The alternate art Latias & Latios GX 170 leads the set in PSA 10, with the alternate art Gengar & Mimikyu GX 165 and Magikarp & Wailord GX 161 behind it, then the regular Gengar & Mimikyu GX 53, the Cosmos Holofoil Charizard 14, the rainbow Gengar & Mimikyu GX 186, the Cracked Ice Blastoise 25, the full art Gengar & Mimikyu GX 164, the reverse holofoil Lugia 131 and the rainbow Eevee & Snorlax GX 191. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.

PSA 10 copies of the three alternate arts carry a wide premium over PSA 9, and the Theme Deck and tin holofoils of Charizard and Blastoise cost little raw but grade far above their raw prices.

Sealed Team Up remains obtainable, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes, packs, Elite Trainer Boxes and Theme Decks trade for today.
