About Plasma Storm
What Plasma Storm is
Plasma Storm is the eighth main expansion of the Black & White Series, released in English on February 6, 2013 and built from the Japanese Plasma Gale of September 14, 2012. It has 135 cards in the numbered set plus 3 secret rares, Charizard 136 and Blastoise 137 by Ayaka Yoshida and the gold Random Receiver 138, and it marks the debut of Team Plasma in the card game, with Team Plasma Pokémon such as Articuno EX 25, Zapdos EX 48 and Lugia EX 108 beside Moltres EX 14, Victini EX 18 and Cobalion EX 93.
Team Plasma cards carry a redesigned frame: blue border and artwork window, a Team Plasma bar below the HP and a blue aura around the Pokémon. The set continues the ACE SPEC cards with Dowsing Machine 128, Scramble Switch 129 and Victory Piece 130, and the full arts run from Victini EX 131 to Lugia EX 134 and the Supporter Colress 135.
What makes Plasma Storm different
- Secret Charizard and Blastoise The secret rare Charizard 136 is the most valuable card in the set in PSA 10 by a wide margin, and Blastoise 137 ranks third, Ayaka Yoshida's pair of Kanto starters above the 135 card set.
- Colress The Full Art Colress 135 ranks second in the whole set in PSA 10, a Supporter outranking every Pokémon-EX including the full art Articuno EX 132.
- Misplaced Whismur line Whismur, Loudred and Exploud were printed before Lugia EX in the card order, out of Pokédex sequence, an ordering error that stands in the finished set.
How Plasma Storm arrived
Plasma Gale released in Japan on September 14, 2012, and the English Plasma Storm followed on February 6, 2013, thirteen weeks after Boundaries Crossed on November 7, 2012 and thirteen weeks before Plasma Freeze on May 8, 2013. It launched with the Plasma Shadow and Plasma Claw Theme Decks, built around Cracked Ice Holofoil Giratina 62 and Druddigon 94, and blisters with Ninetales, Ampharos, Drifblim and Jigglypuff promos, and in February 2013 came the Plasma Storm Elite Trainer Box, the first product of its kind.
Plasma Storm products
Plasma Storm was sold in booster packs, booster boxes, two Theme Decks, blisters and the first Elite Trainer Box. The sealed table above tracks them.
Collecting and grading Plasma Storm
Charizard 136 leads the set in PSA 10, with Colress 135 second, then Blastoise 137, the full art Articuno EX 132, the Infernape 17 holo, the reverse holo Giratina 62 and the full art Lugia EX 134 and Victini EX 131. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.
PSA 10 copies of the two secret rare starters and the Colress full art carry a very wide premium over PSA 9. Reverse holos, the Cracked Ice Theme Deck holos and the Sheen Holofoil Legendary Battle Deck prints are graded and priced separately. Sealed Plasma Storm is scarce, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes, packs, blisters and the Elite Trainer Box trade for today.
