About Next Destinies
What Next Destinies is
Next Destinies is the fourth main expansion of the Black & White Series, released in English on February 8, 2012. It has 99 cards in the numbered set plus 4 secret rares, 103 in total, and it combines the Japanese Psycho Drive and Hail Blizzard dual expansions of September 16, 2011 with the Reshiram EX and Zekrom EX Battle Strength Decks.
The set introduced Pokémon-EX, Basic Pokémon that give up two Prize cards when Knocked Out, in regular prints with the Pokémon breaking out of the artwork window and in etched Full Art prints, the six full arts sitting at 94 to 99: Shaymin EX, Reshiram EX, Kyurem EX, Zekrom EX, Mewtwo EX and Regigigas EX. Its secret rares were the first to show Shiny Pokémon, reprints of Emboar 100, Chandelure 101, Zoroark 102 and Hydreigon 103, and much of the artwork is set in Castelia City, from Vanillite at the Casteliacone stand to Lapras below the Skyarrow Bridge.
What makes Next Destinies different
- The Mewtwo EX full art Mewtwo EX 98 is the most valuable card in the set in PSA 10 by a very wide margin, and the regular Mewtwo EX 54 became the card the Black & White format was built around.
- The first shiny secret rares Emboar 100, Chandelure 101, Zoroark 102 and Hydreigon 103 are Shiny Pokémon reprints with a holofoil type symbol in the attack box, and Zoroark 102 ranks in the set's top ten in PSA 10.
- Commons that grade Gardevoir 57 ranks second in the set in PSA 10, and Wigglytuff 79, Pikachu 39 and the reverse holofoil Pidove 83 sit in the top fifteen, all cards that cost very little raw.
How Next Destinies arrived
Psycho Drive and Hail Blizzard released in Japan on September 16, 2011, and the English Next Destinies followed on February 8, 2012, twelve weeks after Noble Victories on November 16, 2011 and thirteen weeks before Dark Explorers on May 9, 2012. It launched with the Explosive Edge and Voltage Vortex Theme Decks built around Reshiram and Zekrom and with blisters that for the first time differed between North America and other markets.
Next Destinies products
Next Destinies was sold in booster packs, booster boxes, two Theme Decks and blisters. The sealed table above tracks boxes, packs and blisters.
Collecting and grading Next Destinies
The full art Mewtwo EX 98 leads the set in PSA 10 by a very wide margin, with Gardevoir 57, the full art Reshiram EX 95, Wigglytuff 79, the Cosmos Holofoil Moltres 14, the full art Zekrom EX 97, the Prerelease Staff Arcanine 12, the shiny Zoroark 102, Pikachu 39 and the full art Kyurem EX 96 behind it. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.
Etched full arts show scratches readily, so PSA 10 copies of Mewtwo EX 98 carry an enormous premium over PSA 9. Sealed Next Destinies is scarce, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes, packs and blisters trade for today.
