Lost Origin is the eleventh main expansion of the Sword & Shield Series, released in English on September 9, 2022 under the set code LOR. It has 196 cards in the numbered set, 21 secret rares and a 30 card Trainer Gallery subset, for 247 cards in total. The Renegade Pokémon Giratina, in its Origin Forme, is the face of the set, and the expansion brought back the Lost Zone, a mechanic last seen in Cosmic Eclipse: cards sent there cannot be recovered, unlike the discard pile.
Cards that interact with the Lost Zone are marked by a shadowy aura of purple, pink and turquoise wisps around the Pokémon or the illustration window. Giratina, Aerodactyl, Magnezone, Drapion, Hisuian Goodra and Hisuian Zoroark appear as Pokémon VSTAR, Kyurem as a Pokémon VMAX, and Gardevoir, Hisuian Sneasler and Steelix as the three Radiant Pokémon. The 25 Ultra rares (172 to 196) include 17 full art and alternate art Pokémon V and eight full art Supporters, and the secret rares run from 15 rainbow cards (197 to 211) to six gold cards (212 to 217). Fighting is the most represented type at 33 cards, and every card carries the F regulation mark.
Each booster pack holds ten cards, a Pokémon TCG Live code card and either a basic Energy card or a VSTAR marker card. The cards come from the Japanese Lost Abyss expansion, the Dark Phantasma subset, the VSTAR & VMAX High Class Decks, cards from Time Gazer, Space Juggler and Battle Region that Astral Radiance did not include, and some remaining VMAX Climax cards.
Japan released Lost Abyss on July 15, 2022, a 127 card set that followed Time Gazer and Space Juggler and preceded Paradigm Trigger, with the Dark Phantasma subset having arrived on May 13, 2022. The English set combined them with the leftover Time Gazer, Space Juggler, Battle Region and VMAX Climax cards and released on September 9, 2022, a week after Trick or Trade 2022 and two months before Play! Pokémon Prize Pack Series One.
The release marked a return to normal for organized play. The Play! Pokémon program reopened during 2022, and the Lost Origin prereleases on the weekends of August 27 to 28 and September 3 to 4, 2022 were the first official prerelease tournaments since Sword & Shield in February 2020. Each participant received a Lost Origin Build & Battle Box with a 40 card deck built around one of four SWSH Black Star Promos, four booster packs, a deck building tip sheet and a code card. The promos were Finneon (SWSH 240), Gengar (SWSH 241), Comfey (SWSH 242) and Machamp (SWSH 243), with non holofoil Kingdra 37, Gengar 66 and Hisuian Arcanine 84 deck prints and rereleased Irida and Professor's Research cards. The Build & Battle Stadium followed on September 23, 2022 with two Build & Battle Boxes, four more packs and 121 basic Energy cards.
The set's ghosts kept working afterwards: Phantump 16, Trevenant 17, Litwick 24, Lampent 25, Chandelure 26, Gastly 64, Haunter 65, Gengar 66, Banette 73 and Spectrier 81 all appeared with the Pikachu jack-o'-lantern stamp in the Trick or Trade BOOster Bundle 2023, several on Mirage Holofoil, and Glastrier 51 carried a silver snowflake stamp in the Holiday Calendar 2023.
The Elite Trainer Box features Origin Forme Giratina and holds eight booster packs, 65 card sleeves, six damage counter dice, a coin flip die, two acrylic Special Condition markers, an acrylic VSTAR marker, four dividers, 45 basic Energy cards, a rulebook, a player's guide and a code card. The Pokémon Center version holds ten packs, a different set of Giratina sleeves, a Giratina pin and a jumbo Giratina coin.
Single pack blisters carry Scorbunny (SWSH 244) or Croagunk (SWSH 245), three pack blisters carry Weavile (SWSH 246) or Regigigas (SWSH 247), premium checklane blisters reuse the Torterra and Infernape lines from Brilliant Stars, and Stage 1 blisters the Lucario and Bibarel lines from the same set. Every blister includes a code card and a jumbo coin. The new Booster Bundle holds six loose packs, the Collector's Album shows Giratina and Zoroark, holds 60 cards and includes one pack, and Ultra Pro returned to booster pack artwork for its four pocket Zoroark and Enamorus binders and nine pocket Giratina and Gardevoir binders.
Giratina V 186 carries the set, and the live prices above show the gap between a raw copy and a PSA 10. Behind it the Trainer Gallery does the work: Pikachu TG05, Gengar TG06, Snorlax TG10, Charizard TG03 and Chandelure TG04 all grade into strong PSA 10 premiums from modest raw prices, and Pikachu V TG16 and Pikachu VMAX TG17 trade as the most expensive raw cards after Giratina. Nurikabe's alternate art Aerodactyl V 180 is the next pack pulled chase.
The variant rows deserve attention. The Prize Pack prints of Sableye 70, Gengar 66, Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR 147 and Hisuian Goodra VSTAR 136 sit far above the pack cards in PSA 10, and Mimikyu 80 shows a high PSA 10 price on a thin market built on sparse sales. The checklist below tracks each variant separately, so match the label before comparing prices.
Only a handful of tracked singles clear a meaningful raw price and the median raw card rounds to nothing, so Lost Origin is an inexpensive master set outside Giratina and the Trainer Gallery. Sword & Shield alternate arts show edge whitening and the Trainer Gallery foils scratch easily, so tilt each card under a light before submitting. The sealed table above tracks what booster boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes and bundles trade for today.
