Mega Dream ex

What Mega Dream ex is

Mega Dream ex is the first high class pack of the Japanese MEGA era, released on November 28, 2025 under the set code M2a. It has 193 cards in the numbered set plus 57 secret rares, 250 in total, and it is the Japanese source of the English Ascended Heroes special expansion of January 30, 2026, which combined it with the Start Deck 100 Battle Collection into a 295 card set. Like the high class packs before it, Mega Dream ex gathers the stars of the recent game, the Mega Evolution Pokémon ex of the new era alongside the Trainer's Pokémon, Tera Pokémon ex and Pokémon ex of the Scarlet & Violet years, most in new illustrations.

The secret rares run from 194 to 250: 20 Illustration rares, 19 Ultra rares, 17 Special illustration rares and the Mega Hyper Rare Mega Dragonite ex at 250. The numbered set carries 27 Double rare Pokémon ex, and Psychic is the most represented type at 30 cards, ahead of Darkness at 26. Most cards carry the I regulation mark, with 51 reprints on H.

Mega Dream ex also introduced two parallel holofoil treatments for its low rarity Pokémon, a Poké Ball pattern or an Energy symbol matching the card's type, in place of a regular reverse holofoil.

What makes Mega Dream ex different

• The Mega attack rare print Ten Ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, from Mega Charizard X ex 223 to Mega Dragonite ex 232, are drawn in a pop art style with the card's signature attack written in large text across the art, a nod to the Mega Pokémon-EX of the XY era. English Ascended Heroes turned the print into its own rarity, the Mega attack rare, and swapped the attack text between languages.
• Poké Ball and Energy foils Common, uncommon and rare Pokémon come in two parallel foil patterns, a Poké Ball matched to the Pokémon (Love Ball, Friend Ball, Quick Ball, Dusk Ball or standard Poké Ball, with the Team Rocket R for Team Rocket's Pokémon) or an Energy symbol of its type. Trainers keep the ordinary reverse pattern.
• Seventeen Special illustration rares The run from 233 to 249 includes Mega Gengar ex 240 by danciao, Pikachu ex 234 by James Turner, Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex 237 by Mitsuhiro Arita, Mega Dragonite ex 246 by DOM, N's Zoroark ex 242 by Raita Kazama and three Supporters, Iris's Fighting Spirit, Canari and Surfer.
• Two months ahead of English Mega Dream ex released on November 28, 2025 and Ascended Heroes on January 30, 2026, so the Japanese cards were the first printing of every new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex in the set.

How Mega Dream ex arrived

Mega Dream ex followed Inferno X, the Mega Charizard X set of September 26, 2025, and preceded Nihil Zero on January 23, 2026, the first MEGA era set based on Pokémon Legends: Z-A. As a high class pack it sat outside the main expansion numbering and drew its roster from across the era's first months: the Mega Lucario ex, Mega Gardevoir ex and Mega Charizard X ex of the opening sets return as pop art Ultra rares, and Mega Froslass ex, Mega Eelektross ex, Mega Diancie ex, Mega Hawlucha ex, Mega Gengar ex, Mega Scrafty ex and Mega Dragonite ex arrive as new Megas.

The English Ascended Heroes of January 30, 2026 combined the pack with the Start Deck 100 Battle Collection and became, at 295 cards, the largest English expansion to date, passing the 284 cards of Fusion Strike. It was also the first international set to bring the I regulation mark into the Standard format.

Mega Dream ex products

Mega Dream ex was sold in booster packs and booster boxes, the standard Japanese high class pack format, and the sealed table above tracks both. Its cards reached Western collectors through Ascended Heroes and its Elite Trainer Boxes, collections and blisters rather than through Japanese branded products.

Collecting and grading Mega Dream ex

Mega Gengar ex 240, the Special illustration rare by danciao, and the Mega Hyper Rare Mega Dragonite ex 250 lead the pack pulled cards, followed by James Turner's Pikachu ex 234, DOM's Mega Dragonite ex 246, Mitsuhiro Arita's Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex 237 and Raita Kazama's N's Zoroark ex 242. The live prices above show the current order.

The top entry on the chase list, Mega Charizard X ex 223 labelled Texture Error, is a misprint variant with almost no graded sales, and the Energy foil N's Zekrom 129, Hop's Snorlax 136 and Rayquaza 127 carry PSA 10 prices far above their raw values on thin markets. Match the variant label in the checklist before comparing any of them with a regular pull.

Japanese high class packs are printed with tight quality control, so PSA 10 rates run high and the graded premium is modest for most cards. Sealed boxes are the practical way to collect the set, and the sealed table above tracks what they trade for today.
