About Infinity Zone
What Infinity Zone is
Infinity Zone is the third main expansion of the Sword & Shield era in Japan, released on June 5, 2020 with 100 numbered cards plus 19 secret rares for 119 in total. It is built around the Gigantic Pokémon Eternatus and continues the V and VMAX mechanics with Scizor, Salamence, Drednaw and Houndoom lines. The English Darkness Ablaze of August 14, 2020 combined Infinity Zone with the Explosive Walker subset and the Charizard and Grimmsnarl VMAX Starter Sets to reach 201 cards. The set was originally announced as World Down and renamed before release.
What makes Infinity Zone different
- Renamed before launch The set was first revealed as World Down, and the change to Infinity Zone is believed to have followed concerns about the earlier name during the pandemic spring of 2020.
- No Charizard VMAX here The Charizard V and VMAX that headline Darkness Ablaze came from the Japanese Charizard VMAX Starter Set, not from Infinity Zone, so the Japanese hub is led by Scizor, Salamence and popular regular cards instead.
Infinity Zone products
Collecting and grading Infinity Zone
Torchic leads the hub, an unusual result that shows how strongly popular regular cards trade in Japanese Sword & Shield sets, followed by the secret Scizor VMAX, Salamence V and Salamence VMAX, the full art Houndoom V and Mimikyu. Blaziken, Skarmory, Gothita and Skitty are the other regular cards collectors chase. Sword & Shield era cards grade on centering and back corners more than surface, since the stock is thick and the holo layer is durable.
