About Dark Rush
What Dark Rush is
Dark Rush is the fourth main expansion of the BW era in Japan, released on December 16, 2011. It has 69 numbered cards plus 7 secret rares for 76 in total, and it became the core of the English Dark Explorers expansion of May 9, 2012, which reached 111 cards. The set continued the Generation V focus and the Pokémon EX mechanic, with Entei EX, Raikou EX, Darkrai EX and Tornadus EX carrying full art secret prints. Dark Rush also marked the first time a secret card could be an Item: Pokémon Catcher received a gold secret print with a holofoil Poké Ball in the attack box, alongside gold Gardevoir and Archeops.
What makes Dark Rush different
- First secret rare Item card Starting with this expansion, secret rares were no longer limited to Pokémon. The gold Pokémon Catcher set a pattern that every later era has followed.
- Darkrai EX defines the era Darkrai EX debuted here and became the backbone of competitive decks for the next two seasons, which keeps both the regular and full art prints in demand.
Dark Rush products
Collecting and grading Dark Rush
The hub is led by the three gold secrets, Gardevoir, Darkrai EX's full art and Archeops, with Pokémon Catcher and the Entei and Raikou EX full arts close behind. Umbreon and the Plusle and Minun pair are the mid tier cards collectors chase outside the secrets. BW era Japanese cards were printed on the thinner stock of the period and show whitening on the back edges quickly, so grade candidates need clean corners on both sides.
