About EX Crystal Guardians
What EX Crystal Guardians is
EX Crystal Guardians is the fourteenth main expansion of the EX Series, released in English on August 30, 2006 and built from the Japanese Miracle Crystal of March 10, 2006, the eighth set of the PCG era. It has 100 cards with no secret rares, closing with ten Pokémon-ex from Aggron ex 89 to Swampert ex 98 and the two Pokémon Star cards Alakazam 99 and Celebi 100 by Masakazu Fukuda. The holofoil rares open the set, among them the Delta Species Blastoise 2, Charizard 4 and Ludicolo 6.
The set is placed on a mysterious island far from the city of Holon, where regular Pokémon and Delta Species live among naturally growing crystals said to grant special powers. It is the last expansion to feature dual type Delta Species Pokémon, and its Pokémon-ex include Blaziken ex 90, Groudon ex 93 and Kyogre ex 95.
What makes EX Crystal Guardians different
- Two Gold Stars Celebi 100 is the most valuable card in the set in PSA 10 and Alakazam 99 ranks fourth, the two Pokémon Star cards that close the set and carry Shiny artwork by Masakazu Fukuda.
- Delta Species Charizard and Blastoise The Delta Species Charizard 4 ranks third in the set and the reverse holo Blastoise 2 second, with the regular Blastoise 2 also in the top fifteen.
- Trainer reverse holos The reverse holo Crystal Beach 75 and Bill's Maintenance 71 rank in the set's top eight in PSA 10, Trainer cards worth little raw whose top grades are scarce.
How EX Crystal Guardians arrived
Miracle Crystal released in Japan on March 10, 2006, and the English EX Crystal Guardians followed on August 30, 2006, after Prerelease events on the weekends of August 12 to 27 with a stamped Ivysaur 35, and ahead of EX Dragon Frontiers on November 8, 2006. It was the first expansion released with three Theme Decks, Green Cyclone, Storm Surge and Earth Shower, built around Venusaur, Blastoise and Swampert, with Earth Shower sold only at Walmart in North America. Blisters with Cosmos Holofoil Pidgeot and Tauros from POP Series 2 followed in September 2006.

Collecting and grading EX Crystal Guardians
Celebi 100 leads the set in PSA 10, with the reverse holo Blastoise 2 and the Charizard 4 holo behind it, then Alakazam 99, the reverse holo Crystal Beach 75, Fearow 18, the reverse holo Squirtle 64 and Bill's Maintenance 71, and Blaziken ex 90. Late EX Series holofoils and reverse holos show print lines and edge wear readily, so PSA 10 copies of the Gold Stars, the Delta Species holos and the Pokémon-ex carry a very wide premium over PSA 9. Holo, reverse holo and Theme Deck holo prints and the 2007 Championship stamped cards are graded and priced separately. Sealed EX Crystal Guardians is scarce, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes, packs and blisters trade for today.
