About Double Crisis
What Double Crisis is
Double Crisis is a special expansion of the XY Series, released in English on March 25, 2015 as the localization of the Japanese Concept Pack Magma Gang VS Aqua Gang: Double Crisis of January 30, 2015, the first subset of the Japanese XY era. It has 34 cards: 2 ultra rares, Team Aqua's Kyogre EX 6 and Team Magma's Groudon EX 15, both by nagimiso, 6 rares, 12 uncommons and 14 commons, every one belonging to Team Aqua or Team Magma, the villainous teams of the Hoenn region.
The card design was enhanced for the teams: Pokémon carry their Team's logo on the attack box and a Grunt's headshot beside the Pokédex entry, and the Trainer cards carry the logo in the description box, with the Grunt and Admin Supporters illustrated by GAME FREAK. Double Aqua Energy 33 and Double Magma Energy 34 close the set. Packs held seven cards and were never sold in booster boxes, only in the Double Crisis Blisters.
What makes Double Crisis different
- Groudon over Kyogre Team Magma's Groudon EX 15 is the most valuable card in the set in PSA 10 by a very wide margin over Team Aqua's Kyogre EX 6, the two Pokémon-EX that anchor the set.
- Reverse holo Baltoy The reverse holo Team Magma's Baltoy 10 ranks third in the whole set in PSA 10, a common worth very little raw, and reverse holos fill most of the top fifteen.
- Blisters only Cards came only from the Double Crisis Blisters, each with four 7 card packs, a coin and a pin, in Team Magma and Team Aqua versions, so there is no booster box for the set.
How Double Crisis arrived
Magma Gang VS Aqua Gang: Double Crisis released in Japan on January 30, 2015 as the first Concept Pack of the XY era, and the English Double Crisis followed on March 25, 2015, seven weeks after Primal Clash on February 4, 2015 and six weeks before Roaring Skies on May 6, 2015. The blisters launched with a red Team Magma pin and coin or a blue Team Aqua pin and coin, and from August 19, 2015 they carried two coins, the Magma coin in Cracked Ice Holofoil and the Aqua coin in Confetti Holofoil.
Double Crisis products
Double Crisis was never sold in booster boxes. The sealed table above tracks the blisters and loose packs.
Collecting and grading Double Crisis
Team Magma's Groudon EX 15 leads the set in PSA 10, with Team Aqua's Kyogre EX 6 second, then the reverse holo Team Magma's Baltoy 10, Team Magma's Poochyena 17, the reverse holo Team Magma's Numel 1, Team Aqua Admin 25, Team Magma Grunt 30 and Double Magma Energy 34 and Team Magma's Secret Base 32. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.
With only two Pokémon-EX, the set's value sits in the Groudon and Kyogre and in PSA 10 reverse holos, where the gap over PSA 9 is very wide because few of the blister cards were graded. Regular and reverse holo prints are graded and priced separately.
