Chaos Rising

What Chaos Rising is

Chaos Rising is the fourth main expansion of the Mega Evolution Series, released worldwide on May 22, 2026 under the set code CRI. It has 86 cards in the numbered set plus 36 secret rares, 122 in total. It is the second main expansion based on the video game Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the third Z-A themed set overall after Ascended Heroes and Perfect Order, and its central Pokémon are Mega Greninja ex and Mega Floette ex, with Mega Pyroar ex and Mega Dragalge ex behind them in the set's story of turmoil on the streets of Lumiose City.

The checklist carries five Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, five ordinary Pokémon ex, 11 Illustration rares, 18 Ultra rares across Pokémon and Trainer cards, six Special illustration rares and one Mega Hyper Rare, the etched Mega Greninja ex that closes the set at 122. Water and Psychic are the most represented types at 16 cards each. Almost every card carries the J regulation mark; six carry I.

The cards come from the Japanese Ninja Spinner expansion, released on March 13, 2026.

What makes Chaos Rising different

• Two Mega mascots Mega Greninja ex appears four times in the set, as a Double rare at 22, an Ultra rare at 100, a Special illustration rare at 116 and the Mega Hyper Rare at 122, while Mega Floette ex takes the second Special illustration rare slot at 117.
• Trainer Ultra rares Ten of the 18 Ultra rares are Trainer cards, including full art Items such as Energy Retrieval, Tool Scrapper and Special Red Card and the Stadiums Prism Tower and Surfing Beach, alongside the Supporters AZ's Tranquility, Emma, Philippe and Roxie's Performance.
• The Ho-Oh stamp Ho-Oh 10 was given away as a Pixel Cosmos Holofoil card stamped GameStop in the United States and EB Games in Canada and Australia, and that retail variant sits second on the set's PSA 10 list. It is a gift with purchase promo, not a pack pulled card.
• A Pokéween tie in Zubat 49, Golbat 50 and Crobat 51 were reprinted as holofoil promos with a Pikachu jack-o'-lantern stamp for Play! Pokémon Store Pokéween events running October 1 to 31, 2026.

How Chaos Rising arrived

Japan released Ninja Spinner on March 13, 2026 with Mega Greninja as its central Pokémon. The English set followed on May 22, 2026, two months after Perfect Order and ahead of Play! Pokémon Prize Pack Series Nine on July 1, 2026.

Prerelease tournaments ran on the weekends of May 9 to 10 and May 16 to 17, 2026. Every paying entrant received a Chaos Rising Build & Battle Box with four booster packs, a 40 card ready to play deck built around one of four MEP Black Star Promos, Delphox 074, Ampharos 075, Crobat 076 or Goodra 077, a deck building tip sheet and a code card, and each deck carried a non holofoil print of the matching card from the set.

Launch day brought the Elite Trainer Box, the Booster Bundle, the blisters, display boxes of 36 packs with 18 pack half displays in Europe and a pair of Ultra PRO portfolios. Several retailers ran gift with purchase promotions with stamped Pixel Cosmos Holofoil cards: Ho-Oh 10 at GameStop and EB Games, Delphox 13 at Best Buy, JB Hi-Fi and Mr. Toys and Toymate, and Keldeo 19 at Barnes & Noble, BoxLunch and Hot Topic.

Chaos Rising products and what came in them

The Elite Trainer Box features Mega Greninja and holds nine booster packs, 65 card sleeves, 40 basic Energy cards, a player's guide, six damage counter dice, a coin flip die, a Froakie coin, six dividers, a code card and a full art foil Fennekin promo (MEP Promo 080) that first appeared in Ninja Spinner. The Pokémon Center version adds two more packs and a second Fennekin with a Pokémon Center stamp. The blisters carry Smooth Cosmos Holofoil Toxel and Charmeleon promos or straight reprints from Phantasmal Flames, most with a Chikorita coin.

Collecting and grading Chaos Rising

The Mega Hyper Rare Mega Greninja ex 122 is the card the set is built around, and the live prices above show it leading both raw and graded. The Special illustration rare Mega Greninja ex 116 by Susumu Maeya is the second pack pulled card, then Cinccino ex 119, Mega Dragalge ex 118, Mega Floette ex 117 and the two Supporter Special illustration rares, Roxie's Performance 121 and AZ's Tranquility 120.

The Illustration rares are where grading pays. Claydol 92, Xerneas 91, Froakie 88 and Ampharos 90 are inexpensive raw and carry PSA 10 prices many times their raw value, so condition on the pull decides whether they are worth a submission. The GameStop and EB Games stamped Ho-Oh 10 ranks second on the PSA 10 list but it is a retail promo variant; match the variant label in the checklist before comparing it with the pack pulled Ho-Oh.

This is a young set with a market still settling, and the sealed table above tracks what its plentiful sealed product trades for today.
