Heat Wave Arena

What Heat Wave Arena is

Heat Wave Arena, called Hot Wind Arena on Bulbapedia, is the ninth subset of the Japanese Scarlet & Violet era, an Enhanced Expansion Pack released on March 14, 2025 under the set code SV9a. It has 63 cards in the numbered set plus 29 secret cards, 92 in total, and continues the era's Trainer's Pokémon, cards owned by a named Trainer. Its four archetypes are Ethan, Cynthia, Arven and Misty, and the booster pack shows Cynthia, Ethan and Arven with the Pokémon that appear here as their ex: Cynthia's Garchomp ex, Ethan's Ho-Oh ex and Arven's Mabosstiff ex.

The numbered set holds 6 Pokémon ex, Yanmega ex, Ethan's Ho-Oh ex, Dondozo ex, Electivire ex, Cynthia's Garchomp ex and Arven's Mabosstiff ex, and the secret cards from 64 to 92 carry the illustration rares, full art ex and Supporters, special illustration rares and ultra rares that drive the market, led by Cynthia's Garchomp ex 87 and Ethan's Ho-Oh ex 86. Hot Wind is the Japanese name of the move Heat Wave, which is where the hub name comes from.

The set was built for Sealed Battles, in which players open 15 packs and build 40 card decks on the spot, and its cards reached English collectors in Destined Rivals.

What makes Heat Wave Arena different

• Trainer's Pokémon Every featured Pokémon belongs to Ethan, Cynthia, Arven or Misty, from Ethan's Pichu and Typhlosion to Cynthia's Roserade and Misty's Lapras, and the two Trainer's ex, Cynthia's Garchomp ex and Ethan's Ho-Oh ex, lead the set's market in their special illustration rare prints.
• Built for Sealed Battles Official Sealed Battles ran at Pokémon Gym stores nationwide from March 14 to May 31, 2025. Entrants received 15 Heat Wave Arena packs, a Nemona promo from two prints and a deck case, built a 40 card deck from their pulls and played four Prize games in round robin groups of up to four.
• The Sealed Battle promos Group winners received a Sealed Battle Promo Card Pack with one of three SV-P promos, Ethan's Ho-Oh ex, Cynthia's Garchomp ex or Arven's Mabosstiff ex, and a Rock Paper Scissors tournament among the other players awarded one more pack per event.
• Misty's Psyduck Misty's Psyduck 22 and its illustration rare 71 rank among the set's top cards, and Misty's Lapras 27 and 72 follow, an unusual result for a regular Water type card and its art rare.
• A box bonus from the Illustration Contest Buyers of a 30 pack box received, while supplies lasted, a 3 card pack of SV-P promos Feraligatr, Pikachu and Toxtricity ex, the three winning illustrations from the Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest 2024.

How Heat Wave Arena arrived

Heat Wave Arena released in Japan on March 14, 2025, seven weeks after Battle Partners on January 24, 2025 and five weeks before Glory of Team Rocket on April 18, 2025. A Traditional Chinese edition followed on March 28, 2025 and a Korean edition on May 16, 2025.

The release day also opened the Sealed Battle season at Pokémon Gym stores, which ran until May 31, 2025 with the 15 pack entry, the Nemona promo and the Sealed Battle Promo Card Packs for winners. The set's cards were later folded into the English Destined Rivals expansion alongside Glory of Team Rocket, which is why English collectors know Ethan's Ho-Oh ex and Cynthia's Garchomp ex from that set.

Heat Wave Arena continued the Trainer's Pokémon idea of the sets before it, and the Ethan, Cynthia, Arven and Misty archetypes it featured carried into the sets that followed.

Collecting and grading Heat Wave Arena

The special illustration rare Cynthia's Garchomp ex 87 leads the set, with the special illustration rare Ethan's Ho-Oh ex 86 close behind, then Misty's Psyduck 22 and its illustration rare 71, Misty's Lapras 27 and 72, the special illustration rare Ethan's Adventure 89, the ultra rare Ethan's Ho-Oh ex 90 and Cynthia's Garchomp ex 91, the Ethan's Typhlosion 70 and Cynthia's Roserade 65 illustration rares and the full art Cynthia's Garchomp ex 80. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.

Japanese print quality keeps PSA 10 rates high, so graded premiums are modest and concentrate on the two special illustration rare Trainer's ex. Because the set was opened heavily at Sealed Battles, raw copies of the illustration rares are plentiful, and the art rare Trainer's Pokémon are collected as complete Ethan, Cynthia, Arven and Misty runs.

Sealed Heat Wave Arena remains available, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes and packs trade for today.
