About Forbidden Light
What Japanese Forbidden Light is
Forbidden Light is the sixth main expansion of the Sun & Moon era in Japan, released on March 2, 2018 with 94 numbered cards plus 16 secret rares for 110 in total. It draws on Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and revisits the Kalos region, with Greninja GX, Zygarde GX, Yveltal GX, Xerneas GX and Ultra Necrozma GX as the GX cards and Volcanion, Diancie and Lysandre as Prism Star cards. Lady, Diantha and Bonnie received full art Supporter prints. The English Forbidden Light of May 4, 2018 combined this set with the Ultra Force subset for 146 cards.
What makes Japanese Forbidden Light different
- Kalos returns The set brings the Kalos legendaries and Greninja back in GX form, and Lysandre appears as a Prism Star, the only villain leader to get that treatment.
- Illustrator lineup on the secrets The rainbow rares carry credits from Hideki Ishikawa, Ken Sugimori, Toyste Beach and Yoshinobu Saito, and the full art Lady by Kanako Eo is one of the era's most collected trainers.
Japanese Forbidden Light products
Collecting and grading Japanese Forbidden Light
Greninja GX leads the hub in both its rainbow and full art prints, followed by the full art Lady, the rainbow Xerneas GX and Ultra Necrozma GX, and the full art Bonnie. Dedenne and Cubone are the popular regular cards, and Diancie Prism Star leads the Prism Stars. Sun & Moon era rainbow rares are prone to print lines and edge chipping on the textured surface, so inspect the borders before grading.
