About the HeartGold & SoulSilver era

The HeartGold & SoulSilver Series ran from HeartGold & SoulSilver on February 10, 2010 to Triumphant on November 3, 2010, four main expansions drawn from the Japanese LEGEND era, from the HeartGold Collection and SoulSilver Collection to Clash at the Summit. It returned the game to the Johto region of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the remakes of Gold and Silver, and it is the last series before Black & White rebuilt the rules with Abilities.

The base set introduced two card types. Pokémon Prime are powerful versions of fully evolved Pokémon with a holofoil border and a silver name, and Pokémon LEGEND are Legendary Pokémon split across two cards, top and bottom halves that must be played together, with artwork that spans both. Ho-Oh LEGEND and Lugia LEGEND opened the line and later sets added pairs such as Kyogre & Groudon LEGEND and Darkrai & Cresselia LEGEND.

Unleashed followed in May 2010, Undaunted in August 2010 and Triumphant in November 2010, each adding Primes and LEGENDs. Undaunted's Umbreon Prime and Espeon Prime are the most collected cards of the era, with Triumphant's Gengar Prime, Mew Prime, Celebi Prime and Absol Prime close behind, and the HeartGold & SoulSilver Gyarados holofoil leads the base set. Call of Legends, in February 2011, reprinted the era's Pokémon LEGEND and closed Generation IV before Black & White.

The era's sets were smaller than their neighbors, between 90 and 123 cards, and their holofoil rares grade well, which keeps complete master sets reachable. The set hubs below carry every card list, the live chase and sealed prices and the editorial history of each release.

  • Pokémon Prime HeartGold & SoulSilver introduced Pokémon Prime, powerful fully evolved Pokémon with a holofoil border and silver name. Undaunted's Umbreon Prime and Espeon Prime and Triumphant's Gengar Prime and Mew Prime are the era's chase cards.
  • Pokémon LEGEND Pokémon LEGEND are Legendary Pokémon split across two cards, top and bottom halves played together with art spanning both, introduced with Ho-Oh LEGEND and Lugia LEGEND and reprinted as secret cards in Call of Legends.
  • Back to Johto The four sets return to the Johto region of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, drawing on the Japanese LEGEND era from the HeartGold Collection and SoulSilver Collection to Clash at the Summit.
  • The last Poké-Power sets HeartGold & SoulSilver, Unleashed, Undaunted and Triumphant are the last main expansions with Poké-Powers and Poké-Bodies before Black & White replaced them with Abilities in 2011.
