About Ancient Origins
What Ancient Origins is
Ancient Origins is the seventh main expansion of the XY Series, released in English on August 12, 2015 and built from the Japanese Bandit Ring of June 20, 2015, the final set of the Japanese XY era. It has 98 cards in the numbered set plus secret rares numbered to 100, and it is based on Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire with the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa, as Hoopa EX 36, at its center alongside M Sceptile EX 8, M Ampharos EX 28 and M Tyranitar EX 43.
The set continues the Ancient Traits of Primal Clash and Roaring Skies. Its full arts run from Sceptile EX 84 to Lugia EX 94 and the Supporter Steven 95, and the secret rares are Shiny prints of Primal Kyogre EX 96, Primal Groudon EX 97 and M Rayquaza EX 98 followed by the gold Energy Retrieval 99 and Trainers' Mail 100.
What makes Ancient Origins different
- Shiny M Rayquaza EX The secret rare M Rayquaza EX 98 shows the black Shiny Rayquaza and is the most valuable card in the set in PSA 10 by a wide margin, with the Shiny Primal Kyogre EX 96 and Primal Groudon EX 97 in the top five.
- The Gyarados holo Gyarados 21 ranks in the set's top four as the Cosmos Holofoil from the Mega Gyarados Collection and in the top nine in both its regular and reverse holo prints.
- Hex Maniac alternate art The Yellow A alternate art Hex Maniac 75a from the Premium Trainer's XY Collection ranks in the set's top seven in PSA 10, a Supporter outranking Giratina EX.
How Ancient Origins arrived
Bandit Ring released in Japan on June 20, 2015, and the English Ancient Origins followed on August 12, 2015, fourteen weeks after Roaring Skies on May 6, 2015. It launched with the Iron Tide and Stone Heart Theme Decks, whose Cracked Ice Holofoil Metagross 49 and Regirock 40 are exclusive to them, an Elite Trainer Box featuring Hoopa Unbound and five blisters, with Mega Evolution pin blisters following on August 19.
Ancient Origins products
Ancient Origins was sold in booster packs, booster boxes, two Theme Decks, an Elite Trainer Box, blisters and pin collections. The sealed table above tracks them.
Collecting and grading Ancient Origins
M Rayquaza EX 98 leads the set in PSA 10, with Primal Kyogre EX 96 second, then the full art Lugia EX 94, the Cosmos Holo Gyarados 21, Primal Groudon EX 97, the regular Gyarados 21, the alternate art Hex Maniac 75a and the full art Giratina EX 93. The live chase list above ranks every tracked card by PSA 10 value.
PSA 10 copies of the three Shiny secret rares carry a wide premium over PSA 9. The Cosmos Holofoil box and tin prints, the alternate art Hex Maniac 75a and the Theme Deck holos are graded and priced separately. Sealed Ancient Origins remains obtainable, and the sealed table above tracks what boxes, packs, blisters and Elite Trainer Boxes trade for today.
