About Pikachu's New Friends
What Pikachu's New Friends is
Pikachu's New Friends is a four card blister pack released in Japan on November 18, 2016, the same day as the Pokémon Sun and Moon video games, and the first release of the Sun & Moon era in the Japanese card game. It holds holofoil prints of Rowlet, Litten, Popplio and Pikachu, and it was the first look at the era's new card template, with the Pokédex information moved to the bottom right and the card number, rarity and set symbol moved to the bottom left.
What makes Pikachu's New Friends different
- First cards of an era These four cards arrived three weeks before Collection Sun and Collection Moon, so they are the earliest Sun & Moon era cards in existence.
- New template preview The blister introduced the layout that every Sun & Moon card would use, which makes the set a small piece of card design history.
Collecting and grading Pikachu's New Friends
All four cards are holofoil and tracked in the hub, with Pikachu leading, followed by Rowlet, Litten and Popplio. The hub tracks no sealed rows. A complete set is four cards, so collectors focus on centering and clean holo surfaces, and sealed blisters are the harder find because most were opened on release day.
